I have a stupid question. I have snow tires from my CX5 that are 225/55R19. I was thinking they might work on my CX70 signature that are 265/55R19. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance
In my opinion, too great of a difference in overall diameter to use the 225/55R19 on your new car. This is almost 6% smaller than stock. I have doubts that the load rating is as high either.

Garrold,

Tires need to be able to handle the weight of a vehicle and it's passengers and cargo. A CX-70 is quite a bit bigger than a CX-5.

From post #4 in this thread on OEM tires (CX-90)-
265/55-19 fits rims 7.5-9.5" wide, perfect for 8.5" wide rim, 113 XL load rated, tire diam. 30.5" to 30.7". Wheel is 19x8.5"

275/45-21 fits rims 8.5-10.5" wide, perfect for 9" wide rim, 110 XL load rated, tire diam. 30.7"

225/55-19 fits rims 6 -8" wide, perfect for 7" wide rim, load rating from 99 for standard load to 103 for XL (extra load), tire diam. 28.8". In addition a rim that fits this tire would have to be rated for the weight of the CX-70.

That's why rims tend to be wider and tire size must be greater.

Sorry, 225/55-19 is too small in tire diameter, is too narrow to fit any wheel more than 8" wide and does not have the load rating needed for the CX-70. CX-70 weighs about 4863 lbs.

OK,thanks for your advice. I will have the stock rims that come's with the cx70, as I bought the 21" upgraded black rims so I could put snows on them. they will probably cost more being 21". thanks again

OK, well with two rims of different diameters you do have the option to look at suitable tires to use in winter snow vs the rest of the year.

OEM tires can be sold if not worn and you can get snow tires for whatever size needed. Good riding tires can be found in the OEM 274/45-21 size but you have to choose wisely and read the reviews. The 45 series sidewall is short and stiff, tire construction can make a difference.

sample search for winter tires in 275/45-21 at tirerack.com

The M011 wheels in 19x8" are rated at 725kg per wheel or 2900 kg or 6393 lbs for the vehicle plus passengers and cargo. Check your gross vehicle weight for your CX-70 in it's trim level. The PHEV weighs more than the base inline 6 engine. The difference can be 400+ lbs unloaded.

As long as the wheels and tires are rated for the weight of the CX-70 you are OK. Note that for smaller diameter wheels you would expect the load rating to be reduced.

In Canada they call it a MHEV CX70 Signature and in the States it's a premium plus. The curb weight is 2205 kg. What do you think? Thanks again

Ok so here are the oem tires/ wheel combos
OE265/55R19 109V
OE275/45R21 1

I have the 19 in wheels. 265/55/19 is really an odd ball, nothing really available in this size. It gets better with 255/55/19 but still not the selection I want unless you go anything with 60 aspect ratio. Looking at the top ball joint, I suspect 60 aspect on 19 in wheels may cause issues. I am not happy when the time comes to change tires.
Even though I have 21" wheels, I was also recommended by dealership 255/60R18 for my CX-90 with their 18" winter ally rims. There a a big cost savings. thoughts?

Interesting, those tires are 10"x30", .8" narrower than the stock 21" all seasons, which would improve on snow performance, and .7" shorter. so a minor speedometer adjustment. A recommendation from Tire Rack is 265/60x18, which measures the same WxH as the 265/55x19 that Mazda also uses on the CX-90. I like you dealer's recommendation for winter tires. Interestingly, when I inquired, my dealer was advised by Mazda that going to a 19" wheel could void warranty coverage - the 21" wheel is the only size offered on the 3.3T PP option (They were surprised, no rationale was given.) Anyone else hear of this? Mind sharing who your dealer is?

Has anyone tried slightly taller/ wider tires on their stock 21” wheels?
I’m thinking of doing either
275/50 which about and inch taller so will be 0.5” closer to the top of the suspension arm
or
295/40 which will be 10mm closer to the suspension on the inside.

I know they’ll clear the fender but not entirely sure on the inside and want to know others experience before making the plunge later in the summer.

I’m currently on my winter 255/55/20 Viningcontact 7’s. It’s completely transformed the car compared to the Toyo 21’s. Ride seems more composed, doesn’t crash over bumps, steering is lighter (expected with the narrower tire). Do the Toyo’s have a particularly stiff sidewall or am I just feeling the difference between a 45 and 55 sidewall? I’m considering swapping them out over winter if they’re really that bad.
Can you please share some pictures of your setup? Did you also get 20 x (8 , 8.5 or 9) rims?

Thanks!
