That's crazy you're getting those so far back on your hood. I have gotten some stone chips (at 6000 miles) but they're all limited to the front fascia. The CX-90 does seem to be a good candidate for PPF considering its blunt nose which seems to be a stone magnet.

 

Yeah the chips on top of the hood is surprising to me too. There are chips on the front fascia, too, and I'd expect some of those. These ones though make me wonder if the paint job is less durable than other cars (or defective?).

 

Probably the thickness of the clear coat more than anything. Might be useful to check the forums of other Mazda models to see if it’s a common issue or isolated to the CX-90.

 

I love our new CX90 2024, but it has one of the worst quality paints I have ever seen on any vehicle. I have never owned a Mazda but have never seen anything like it. You can leave a scratch on it using a fingernail.

 

Agreed. I really like the vehicle, and I can live with some if the electronic quirks. The paint being so easily damaged is hard to accept though, especially from such an expensive vehicle.

 

I also noticed how easy it is to leave scratches/swirl marks on the paint.

 

My suggestion would be to have surface correction performed (to remove swirl marks and light scratches in the clear coat) and then have a graphene coating professionally applied.

No, you would need to get the individual paint chips fixed separately before the clear coat correction. I would take it to a detailing or body shop that offers that service for an estimate. Alternatively you could work on the chips yourself using a Mazda touch up paint pen for your specific color. There are plenty of YouTube videos to reference with best methods.

 

I plan on bringing this up with my local dealer at my next service. On other forums I've read of similar issues with Mazda paint jobs, and some people have gotten Mazda to fix the paint damage and apply a new clear coat. I am not super hopeful, but it's worth asking I think.

 

Is that Soul Red or Artisan Red? I had a SRC Mazda 6 that needed to be repainted @1200 miles...decided on Artisan Red this time around and 5 days in i don't have a single chip after 400 miles...unlike my 6 that had 3 on the drive home and > 200 by the end of the first month.

Raised hell to Mazda...blew up their customer care line. The first dealership I went to 30 days after purchase tried to claim that there was some sort of "film" on the roof and hood...complete nonsense. It was a process that took ~4 months, but eventually they ponied up and paid to respray "the affected panels" which by then was the entire car except for the trunk and rear bumper. I had ~400 paint blemishes by the time the respray happened.

My CX90 is also artisan red...this better bleeping not happen again.
