Clicking Noise from Liftgate Latch and Lock Actuator when Driving on bumpy Roads.
EU TSB NUMBER, I wont list as this was issued to me by my German Mazda Dealer Manager and while this TSB is Not yet issued in North America I believe it will be done soon with same instructions for this repair procedure.
Remember TSB's, or Repair Guidance, or Service Alerts ONLY APPLY to your Mazda IF you are actually experiencing these issues as listed.
DESCRIPTION
Some CX-90 and CX-60 Owners may complain about a clicking noise coming from the liftgate latch-and-lock actuator (lock actuator) when driving on bumpy roads.
CAUSE
The wear debris originated from the friction between the lock actuator and the lock striker causes stick-slip friction between them when driving on bumpy roads.
MASS PRODUCTION CHANGE
Mass production change is under study.
SUBJECT VIN & PRODUCTION DATE RANGE
CX-60 (KH)
CX-90 (KK)
While I do not have the full VIN Range for North American Sold CX-90's I expect the earlier first production units will require this same repair process. Also please keep in mind IF you hear this noise your rear Liftgate Body will not open or its latch will not fall off.
REPAIR PROCEDURE.
1. Fully open the liftgate and using a screwdriver, place the lock actuator’s latch (1) to the locked position.
2. Spray parts cleaner on a cloth and completely remove the grease and the wear debris from lock striker’s surface and from lock actuator engaging section (1).
CAUTION: Do not spray the parts cleaner directly to the lock actuator.
3. Apply clean silicone grease or polyalphaolefin grease on the lock actuator engaging section (1, area marked in red and blue).
4. Remove the service cover located on the liftgate lower trim and unlock the lock actuator using the emergency lever.
5. Check that the lock striker does not accumulate grease by opening and closing the liftgate two or three times.
NOTE: This step has the goal of preventing grease from damaging customers’ clothes and belongings.
6. Close the liftgate and check the repair by pushing the liftgate from outside the vehicle and verifying that no clicking noise is produced.
