Unfortunately this isn't just a mazda thing, the wireless charger in my Palisade isn't awesome either.

Unless I have my case off, and the phone in airplane mode... it mostly just keeps my phone from draining further, and creates heat.
So much so that when we were on our road trip last in June/July... I would regularly pull the phone off the charger to cool it in front of the AC vents. I got tired of that, and just started plugging it in.

For quick trips around town, errands and such, I pop the phone on the wireless pad... but if I need to have my phone actually charge, I always just plug it in.
