Hello Community,
I've been lurking here since shortly before I took delivery of a Turbo Preferred Plus (mild hybrid) on Jan 13. From the day I took delivery, just a mile or two down the road, the front radar has been malfunctioning. It usually happens within a mile or two, and restarting offers a mile or two of function until it fails again. I've driven around 1700 miles already and have driven the car every day. Every day I deal with this malfunction. I can tell you with certainty that the sensor is not obscured. The front radar sensor seems to provide data for all the forward facing collision detection and the adaptive cruise control. On a handful of occasions, when driving in the city (nyc), the sensor has functioned for a sustained period. so maybe 200 miles out of 1700. It seems to need a lot of things to "sense". I won't go into a story about all my dealer interactions, let's just say I'm working with the them to validate this issue and report it to Mazda. I'm not ready to call them out, but it has required a few conversations to get them to take this seriously as the service counter man seems to want to tell me its "normal". As of this writing I'm enjoying the perfect function of a loaner CX-30, which seems to have the same tech. I'll update you all as I get info. I just wanted to start a thread with this specific error as I haven't seen this specific error reported on here.

Really hoping Mazda will pull their act together. I like the car, but it needs to work.

Final Resolution:
After the Techline gave up, the Regional Tech came and fussed for a week and they changed the radar sensor mount and radar lens (logo plate). The problem has not manifested in over 1000 miles of driving.

I actually really like the car when it works. Good luck people...

Here is an update:
The front radar sensor replacement was not effective. Mazda Techline suggested several other software solutions all of which were not effective. The regional tach worked on the car last week changing the camera and doing software things. Not effective. Now they are going to change the emblem and radar mounting bracket. We will see. Car has been out of service 27 days total. I drive a lot and have put quite a lot of miles on the loaners, I guess that is worth something. In my state (NY), they have 30 days to resolve an issue. Tic Toc... (maybe a buyback is serendipitous as the price of a Turbo S dropped $4k.
BTW the CX 90 loaner has zero issues, so it is possible to have one that works.

A few years ago, I owned a 2018 Mazda CX-5 (GT with the technology package), which was the adaptive cruise control and the blind spot monitor system(neither the 360 camera nor the parking sensors). I had the same issue in crisp, clear weather. The I-active sense system keeps failing every now and then, and I noticed that this pattern only happened during the winter months when the temperature was between 0 and -4 Celsius. Mazda kept telling me there was no issue with the system, but as soon as the weather got above zero or even colder than -5, it was back to working OK. This is apart from the times that the system was not working because of poor visibility situations.
With my current 2021 CX-9, it's been all fine in these terms, but I get the blind spot beeping for stationary vehicles or even vehicles driving in the opposite direction, as well as sometimes breaking for cars in the adjacent lanes!
I will take the delivery of the CX-90 in a week or so and I will update the forum on how the system works.
Thanks for the anecdotal evidence. I'm going to start logging a fuller picture of function/malfunction. Mileage, weather including temp, traffic etc...
Today it was fine on 3 short errands, 10/5/5 miles respectively. Tomorrow I will drive 200 miles.

Update:
After validating the malfunction the dealer contacted the Mazda Techline, did all the diagnostics, and replaced the (faulty) front radar sensor. After 20 miles of them driving and another 20 of me driving, it seems fixed. Cautiously optimistic...

I spent some time thinking about this and initially was just going to patiently wait for a fix to trickle down. But then I realized the key is to persuade the dealer to validate the issue and report it to Mazda. Otherwise, nobody at Mazda is doing anything. My car was doing this 98% of the time so it's hard for them to ignore.
They claim to be in contact with Mazda Engineers. The car has been with them for 6 working days. Meanwhile the clock is ticking on legal remedies. Hopefully next week I'll know more...

It's tedious but try and snap a pic of the dashboard every time it malfunctions. Make sure the mileage is showing and the error. I went in with a log to the GM. The dealer also said it would have been better if I had started a case with mazda earlier. I had the mistaken idea that going to mazda was kind of "getting them in trouble". Not true. Document, and complain. Good luck.

There could be a number a problems. From the sensor, the voltage to the sensor, the glass isn't adequate and is obscuring the sensor reading, a software issue. I don't think it should take a week, but there are going to be specific test procedures the Mazda Techline will have them do to verify each issue they may have not seen before. Unfortunately it takes time.

Have you called them since you dropped it off?
Yes I had called the after 5 working days, today, another 2 days I'm back in the car. 8 calendar days all together.
