Front License Plate Bracket

963 Views 15 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Adzam
Has anyone seen the front mounting plate bracket and noticed whether it is screwed into the exposed paint just below the grill? Or is the bracket attachment hidden in the lower grill opening?

All examples I've seen cause the license plate to overlap the bottom of grill chrome trim (which I dislike). Would prefer to lower it slightly, either by shimming or modding.

Partial answer to my own question. I found tiny mounting divots...

I agree, I live in a state that requires a front plate? I guess Incase you’re being pulled over going backward, but all in all nothing looks worse than the plates smashed right in the center of the grill like on the Genesis GV series. Seriously!

I wonder if you can request that the front plate is not installed by your dealer and use a tow hook license plate mounting kit? Something like this, so you can adjust where the plate sits.

The only thing I can think of may be an issue is the front parking sensors, depending on your placement. In Canada they retail for under $40.

I like that idea. That looks great
I purchased one yesterday afternoon to have on hand, $33 Canadian. I'll be asking my dealer to not install the front plate on mine.

That was my only thought. It was relatively inexpensive, figured I'd give it a shot.
Here's the mounting bracket (plastic)

Please post some pictures when you have it on. Wondering if it will interfere with any sensors.

For the life of me I can't figure out what the 2 screws, that would appear to point toward the ground, are for or how they are used. I am researching this as I am in a no-front-tage state but working a deal in a front-tag state. And I am sure they slapped that bracket/dealer promo tag on there before it hit the lot! Aargh.
Can you tell me what those 2 screws are for, please?

Those are the 'bracket to car' mounting screws. They are just stored in that position. You would remove them from there and use to attach to car at dimple locations on the panel below grille.

Edit: instructions on bracket refer to self tapping screws. Those are not. So they may be intended as lic plate mount screws.

Gotcha! Thanks. No wonder I couldn't figure it out. Screw storage...for a jinky piece of plastic. Hmmm.
I could be mistaken as to which mounting screws those are. May be the license plate screws, since bracket text instructs otherwise, self tapping, and those are not self tapping (but you could probably drill pilot holes).

I'm just glad to know they aren't implemented in the position they are in! That was my confusion.
