Dealer Markups?

Has anyone experienced a dealer trying to charge markups over MSRP?

We were interested in the PHEV version but the dealer only had the non-PHEV version in stock. They offered to order it for us, and we were strongly considering that option.

Then, the sales guy comes back and says, to close the deal right then, would we consider the non PHEV in stock, since the "market adjustment" is less on them and we could drive home that night.

When probed further, apparently, the dealer (name available upon request) was charging almost $8k over sticker for the PHEV versions and 'only' $2k over for the standard version.

To makes things worse, this markup was NOT disclosed on the window sticker of the model we were looking at in stock.

Anyone else have similar experiences? How does everyone feel about about dealers not disclosing market adjustments on the sticker?

It's quite a shame actually, I was ready to replace my CX-5 and this would have been my 3rd Mazda purchase, but now I'm looking at other options.

Speaking of which, and this might be a new thread, but what did everyone cross-shop this with? Kia Telluride? Ford Explorer?

Thanks,

A frustrated non CX-90 owner.

My wife and I just ordered the Premium PHEV at slightly below MSRP but took some shopping to find. Other dealerships were telling me all PHEV models were selling over MSRP because they were in high demand. I cannot confirm if that justification is true. The high volume Mazda dealer in my “area” was providing the best price. We cross shopped the Pilot and MDX and felt the CX-90 was supperior for our family of four. Not sure how helpful that was helpful but was my experience.

If you are anywhere near North Texas, I have a no markup, no add-on dealer for ya.

Thanks, I'm in Arizona, but I'm glad to hear this isn't a widespread issue. I might have to try a different Mazda dealership here in town.

I bought a CX-90 in Tennessee from Nelson Mazda. No markup.
