Why does Jonathan think the CX70 will be a CX90 without a third row? They already make a shorter version of the CX90 ( CX60 in Europe.

From internal Mazda sources ...

Watch this:
I cannot think of any car manufacturer that removes a third row seat and makes it a new model number. Why would they make the smaller narrow version on the CX60 in Europe and also will be bringing out the CX80. With this logic they would have brought out the CX80, removed the third row and call this the CX60 rather than what they have already brought out. Why would Mazda not bring out a car that competes in the higher volume segment with cars like the X3, Q5, GV70, and Mercdes GLC etc. I had respect for Jonathan before this ridiclous conclusion. These guys in dealerships no next to nothing of what we pick up from the internet, especially if they are not not management.
Perhaps you could give Jonathan a call and report back on his sources. He's the General Manager at his Alabama dealership. Otherwise time will tell what Mazda brings to market. A 2 row with larger capacity & some rear sheet metal tweaks may be interesting.

Currently I'm more interested in seeing if the rumor of 10,000 CX-90 pre-orders holds true (when the May sales numbers come out).

I know of 2 major German manufacturers who offer a third row as an option in their base 2 row X5 and GLE models . Identical exterior dimensions and rear shape. Identical wheel base and width with possibly more 2nd row legroom and different sporty rear exterior would be ideal for me.

But they are not marketed as different model numbers. Its just an option.

I know someone who works at Mazda and I was told the same thing... cx70 will be same dimensions as 90... Will have different grille and stuff. My guess is dimensions like wheelbase, width, length will be the same but perhaps the rear will be more coupe style and no third row.
