I've been daily driving a Mazda CX-9 for the past 6 years and the AWD system is excellent. I live just outside of Ottawa, Ontario in the country with a family of avid skiers and snowboarders (2-3 times a week). Ski trips on holidays are common as well as driving on dirt roads. Never an issue.

Their systems are different, Subaru's full time symmetrical AWD versus Mazda's front or rear wheel dominant drive with electric systems that constantly monitors for slip and shifts the torque front, rear or left to right. It detects and distributes power seamlessly and I've never been stuck in my Mazda.

Both have there merits and I've been very happy with my CX-9, so much so that I ordered a CX-90 identical to yours (Signature, Artisan Red w. Tan). My wife will be driving the CX-9 as her primary vehicle moving forward.

We still will have a Subaru as well, but it is a "fun" vehicle. I've owned a few Outbacks, a WRX and currently have a 2011 WRX STi track car. They have all been great as well.

FWIW, Best I can determine, from a Japanese speaking video & a couple of written articles, the Synthetic Suede is called Leganu (or Legune) Suede manufactured by Seiren LLC of Japan for automotive applications (they also produce air bag fabrics). Believe it to be a polyester based material with built in resistance to the harsh auto environment & wear. It is similarly used in the 20th Anniversity Edition of Mazda 6. It's kinda hard to tell but the seat insert material seems slightly different (mainly in terms of nap heighth). Hyundai & Genesis (and others) use Dinamica ultrasuede microfiber materials.
